iPhone? OpenMoko!

Are you still excited over Apple’s iPhone? There is a much more interesting new mobile phone out there: OpenMoko, the world’s “First Integrated Open Source Mobile Communications Platform”. Open Source Platform: develop and install any software you like.

Nokia NFC device released

Nokia just released another NFC device: the 6131 NFC. I don’t quite understand why Nokia is going for consumer devices (MP3 player) for their NFC strategy and not for business, but it is still an important step towards the proposed NFC infrastructure.

Read the article on golem or see the Nokia press release.

Annotate the planet (or go home)

Microsoft finally released A.U.R.A. (Advanced User Resource Annotation system), a software for annotating products with mobile devices. The research project already released one paper back in 2003, which introduces many ideas of the mobile prosumer. The software is available for download. Please, give it a try, if you own a microsoft powered mobile device. Let us know your experience. If you can provide us with such a device, get in contact.

Introductory paper

I have written a short paper about the Mobile Prosumer for the Mobile Business course.

Abstract:
The internet of things is only a few steps away and promises interesting opportunities in mobile business. The really ubiquitous computer distributed worldwide today is the mobile phone. In this paper, we introduce The Mobile Prosumer, a mobile phone application with corresponding server infrastructure for delivering relevant product information to consumers at the Point of Sale.

We describe the theoretical and social context, our implementation of a prototype and explain how starting this market is possible today with available web content and already ubiquitous EAN barcodes. Our approach anticipates integration of the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and a global service oriented information system, which will make this business the next big thing.

Please, download and read the paper. Your feedback is highly appreciated.
